Volunteering at RMH in Chicago - July 11, 2015

Eighteen volunteers arrived in the kitchen at 3:00pm with all the supplies needed to make dinner.  The group made a delicious Italian meal that included a tossed salad, Italian sausage, Italian beef and Italian meatball sandwiches, spaghetti with meatballs, garlic bread, an assortment of cupcakes, dulcle de leche cakes and fresh ice tea and lemonade.

The team met some of the families as they served them the meal. Several families and in particular a grandfather of a ten year old boy staying at Lurie Children’s Hospital told us this was the best meal he had in a while and that he wished his grandson could have had this homemade meal because it was a delicious Italian meal!  Special thanks to our Chef, Rafael, who organized Alyssa’s team and provided the leadership to make this Dinner Meal a fun and successful event.  The volunteers said it was a lot of fun and they enjoyed serving the guests at the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago.

We also had the opportunity to serve one of our gift recipients’ Mom, Jen.  It was so nice to see her and check in on Lexi’s art.  It was exciting to hear that Lexi continues to draw while she is going through her treatments at Lurie Children’s Hospital!

The next Meal Prep (brunch) event will be on Sunday, December 6 at the Ronald McDonald House in downtown Chicago. Please visit our Get Involved page to sign up and to find more ways to get involved!
