On Tuesday, January 20, the Alyssa Alvin Foundation for Hope delivered an electric guitar to 14-year-old Finn Martin at Advocate Hospital in Chicago. Finn had requested the guitar to pursue his musical interests while being treated for cancer.

Finn is a multi-sport athlete whose recent diagnosis has caused him to miss time on the field doing what he loves. While Finn goes through his cancer treatments, he developed a creative interest in learning to play guitar.

Finn has a love for rock and, according to his mom Emily, he has been influenced by the music his parents listened to while he was growing up. The guitar is the definitive instrument for rock and roll and, because of its versatility, Finn will have the opportunity to express his emotions fully as he continues to learn and develop his talent.

Similarly, our daughter Alyssa excelled on the piano and later expanded her musical abilities and expressiveness by also learning to play the violin. These creative outlets are critically important to the young people we serve while they are going through their treatment programs for serious illnesses.

We wish Finn and his family all the best and are grateful to continue Alyssa's legacy through her Foundation. Please help us make a positive impact on a young cancer patient’s life and bring their spirits up. You can make a donation by going to our website: alyssaalvinfoundationforhope.org.
